Khlong Toei Society Discovery

Home to Benjakitti Park, the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre and BangkokÔÇÖs biggest fresh market, Khlong Toei is also known for being home to the cityÔÇÖs largest low-income community. Here more than 100,000 people have turned a small area of land into a bustling community that is often misunderstood by outsiders.

See a different side of Bangkok and discover Khlong Toei through its inhabitants on this walking day tour.

9:00 hours ÔÇô Meet the dayÔÇÖs group at the Queen Sirikit Convention Centre MRT Station, Exit 4. From here, youÔÇÖll take a tuk tuk or taxi to the Duang Prateep Foundation in the Khlong Toei community.

9:15 hours ÔÇô Arrive at Khlong Toei and meet your community representative while enjoying a local snack and herbal drinks. The representative will share some Khlong ToeiÔÇÖs story before you head out to experience it for yourself.

9:45 hours ÔÇô Explore the densely-packed community where the lines between private and public life are blurred and much is on display. Pass through different blocks then walk along the railroad tracks to visit a furniture factory located right on the tracks, before discovering the Pattana Community, making a stop at the local morning market and paying respect to the Chao Phor Phra Pra Daeng Shrine.

12:00 hours ÔÇô Take a break from walking for lunch.

13:00 hours ÔÇô Learn how to make jasmine garlands, known as roi malai dok mali. Khlong Toei is one of BangkokÔÇÖs biggest flower garland producers and youÔÇÖll be taught by the locals who are experts at handling the delicate blossoms.

14:30 hours ÔÇô Enjoy snacks. Converse and discuss with the locals to promote the community.

15:00 hours ÔÇô Once back at the Duang Prateep Foundation, itÔÇÖs time to say goodbye to Khlong Toei community and get dropped off at the Queen Sirikit Convention Centre MRT station.
